Friday, September 1, 2017 Sheridan, Wyomingt o to St Regis, Montana

We drove west on US Hwy 14 just north of Sheridan, Wyoming toward Cody, WY.  We stopped in the small town of Dayton, WY for breakfast, before continuing west on a lovely drive through the mountains.  We are just amazed how much the topography changes in the distance of 100 miles.  We did not go the whole way to Cody, but in Lovell we turned north to return to I-90.  I-90 in western Montana is a beautiful drive.  We got to Missoula, MT late afternoon, and began looking for motels.

OH NO! There is a home U of Montana football game tomorrow, plus this is Labor Day weekend!!  Hotels are full!! If there is one room, it is horribly priced.  So how far do we have to drive west to find a hotel? The next large town was 2 ½ hours!  The motels in the smaller towns along the way were full too!  Just crazy – they have football fever too!! In the end, we pulled into a National Forest Campground, near St Regis, Montana, where we found an isolated spot. The drive on I-90 in western Montana is simply great.

We made supper on our little single burner camp stove. We boiled water, added Rami noodles and then a can of chicken.  We left them simmer before serving them in bowls.  Great meal followed by a cup of coffee.
We rearranged the SUV so we could crawl into the back area.  It worked well to sleep in the back. The mattress was very comfortable, and we had enough room. By morning it was 49 degrees but with sleeping bags we were toasty.  Rearranging the SUV was simpler than setting up a tent and taking it down again.
