Tuesday, December 18, 2018: Krakow,
Poland to Liptovsk Mikulas, Slovakia:
Today we left Krakow to drive almost
directly south to the Tatra Mountains which form the boundary between Poland
and Slovakia. Most of the mountain peaks
were cloud covered, but several peaks were open with blue sky above them.
Weather-wise, today has been the
nicest weather since we arrived.
Roadside Chapel |
It was a beautiful drive, in and out of areas with fresh
snow. The trees were so gorgeous with
the fresh snow, as well as the villages, and the ski resorts. We found 2 old wooden carved churches/chapels
along the way. We drove on the road
going around the mountains instead of through the valley on main roads. Most of
the time the road surface was clear, but not all the time. We enjoyed the drive.
We arrived in Liptovsk Mikulas, Slovakia around 4:15, just as
it was getting dark. We relaxed until
6:00 when we went into the Centrum, for supper.
We found a restaurant with traditional food – cheese made from sheep
milk is a specialty in Slovakia. We
enjoyed everything we ordered.
