Monday, September 18, 2017 – Lakeview Campground, AK to Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada

The weather is clear this morning, which is appreciated!  We were on the road after making a cup of coffee/tea.  We drove an hour before we found a restaurant.  It was busy!  Since last weekend, we are having to find places that are open year-round.  Breakfast was a cinnamon roll with coffee, so that we would not be waiting for a long time.

Most of the day we were following a mountain range, however often the road was too close to the near mountains/low mountains, not allowing us to see the snow-covered peaks behind them.  There are also a million lakes in this landscape, allowing us to get some good reflection photos.
We kept seeing hunters on their way home – some with antlers on top and other with just muddy equipment.
More Fall Colors and Mountains

We crossed the Border into Canada.  It is a long way through this part of Canada.  At certain locations, there are hardly any leaves on the trees and bushes, thus the color is gone - other places, there is still a lot of color.
Lunch today was a huge hot roast beef sandwich – 1 order is definitely enough for 2 people!!
At one point, we found the ‘old’ Alcan Highway, and drove on it for about 3 miles (this is not the very first one). Also saw an old bridge that pioneers built during gold rush/stagecoach days – it has been restored to look like it did back then.  Of course, several modern bridges have been built since then, down the river. The Alcan Highway/Alaska Highway we have been traveling on today, has its rough spots – frost heaves and gravel spots.

We made it to Whitehorse, Yukon!  There is a convention in town, not allowing us space at the hotel of our choice, but we are in a hotel.  There is a laundromat next door which came in very handy, after taking showers.
