Lake to Dawson City, Yukon
The campfire
last night was lovely. It helped keep
the little black flies at bay, but as it grew darker, due to the cloudy sky, we
went inside the Acadia earlier than usual. I typed yesterdays blog and we went
to sleep early.
In the
middle of the night it began to rain! At times, it was harder than others, and
by morning it was just a mist, thank goodness. We got on the road with the aim of Carmacks
for breakfast, an hour plus, down the road. The first cup of coffee was wonderful!
We ate a great breakfast as Cal posted the photos from two days ago and
yesterday’s blog. There was no WiFi at the restaurant, but the phone was a
great hot-spot from which to work. We
were in no hurry, as it was raining harder, and was still extremely overcast. After we finished what we wanted to do with
internet we decided to start out for Dawson City.
After
several hours, the sun shone, and my, did it make a difference in the colors.
When it was cloudy, the colors of the leaves/plants were absolutely dull.

Dawson City
is 40 km north of the junction with the Dempster highway which we want to take
north into the Northwest Territory. Dawson
City is where you check on road/weather conditions of the Dempster, plus
fill-up with gas. Yes, it is a little
out of the way, but we want to be sure it is advisable to drive and we need a
full tank of gas.
We decided
that since it was after 3:00, we would knock-it-off for the day, check into a
hotel in Dawson City, shower, after which a laundromat would finish our cleanup
process! We actually checked into the 5th Avenue B&B! That sounds up-town!!
As I am
typing this we are sitting at the laundry!
It is a busy place! After we are
finished here, our plans for the evening are to drive to the highest point in
the area for an overview before we go to the Saloon for food, and a show.
